Communicating for Social Justice (Niagara University)

The communication department at Niagara University has taken on the university’s social justice mission as its central focus, which also gives us certain advantages when teaching our students how to do critical readings of media from day one.  This is the syllabus for our required introduction to media class, Communicating for Social Justice, which functions as a combined historical/contemporary issues course on media presented from a generalized political economic/social justice viewpoint.  Students seem to respond well to the course material (which goes hand-in-hand with the follow-up class, Media Literacy).
