Simple In-Class Lighting Exercise

Here’s a very simple exercise I use to get students to discus s how video-makers make use of some aesthetic purposes of lighting.  I  show 3 clips from very different types of productions (such as a TV game show, a noir style movie, and a music video) and ask students to work in small groups and answer questions such as these:

How does the lighting and shadow tell us about outer orientation/inner orientation of the scene?  Where is the light source coming from?  How could you have lit each of these scenes differently to change something about its mood, atmosphere or meaning?
